General BlogWhy do I do HypnotherapyMany years back during a time of illness I had the most amazing experience. I was seeing a doctor - Matt Tizard - in Auckland NZ, who specialised in finding out what was wrong with people when no one else was able to. He used a system that utilised energy meridians and homoeopathy. Initially it was weird stuff. I worked with Matts system for many months and it worked. However one day during a 'healing crisis' of considerable magnitude, I made an appointment with Matt to try to sort myself out. It was the end of the day and at the time Matt was seeing 50 or so people a day. He was very tired. He looked at me and asked me a question, as I answered he tapped one of my knees. Another question - tapped the other knee and so on. - Later I was to realise that this is an NLP technique. After a while he applied pressure to both me knees at once and held the pressure for a few minutes, at which point I drifted into a kind of dreamy state, known as trance. As I drifted away he gently said, "and I wonder how you are continuing to resolve the imbalance you walked in with in such way.... " and then I woke up. This experience, which took less than 20 minutes, changed my life and changed my mental, emotional and physical state from that point on. I had to know what he had just done, and so, just before he fell asleep in the chair - it was 6.30 pm - he gave me the name of the man who would become my hypnosis trainer. 2 months later I booked into my Clinical Hypnotherapy training where I learned tools that were so fascinating and powerful that life turn 180 degrees for me. This is why I 'do' hypnotherapy, and this is why I suggest that you try it too. Happiness in The MomentHere is a strategy for generating happiness in the moment. Its a simple strategy which utilises the natural workings of the mind and eases the mind into a state of calmness and eventually happiness. Happiness or Eudaimonia?Eudaimonia as a state of flourishing. A state of growing and developing as a human spiritual being. As I am apparently in the business of helping people to become happier, more fulfilled and successful I am often wondering if that is enough. I read for example recently that the motivation of a younger person should not be towards a career, rather towards a 'calling'. The word calling defines something not to dissimilar to the idea of eudaimonia. It is about contribution to something rather than having something. It is more about giving than getting. Creative Genius - A Plug for MumDad tells this story often to the continued embarassment of my mum. When I was a young boy, maybe 7 or 8 years old my dad came home with a number of leather hides. He wanted to have a leather jacket made and he thought mum could do it.
